First, we want to wish all the mothers here today a happy mother’s day. A mother’s love is a marvelous thing and every child should have a special love for mama. But there is a love that is stronger than any maternal ties and that is the love of our heavenly Father. Ps. 27:10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up. Some mothers have forsaken their babies but God will never forsake His own. Ps. 37:28 For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever… Some mothers have followed their son’s careers in crime all the way through incarceration and capital punishment but it was more than a mother’s love that kept Mary there at the cross of Christ. It took the sustaining sovereign grace of almighty God for her to see and hear the agony of Christ that day. Our Saviour was a man of sorrows but we can see that His mother also saw her times of sorrow even being highly favored as she was. Notice her favor and her sorrow.
